When the Music's Over

Sometimes, when I read the FB comments from maga people I have known for 60 years or more (or less), I ponder if life would be easier if I was fucking stupid? I mean, they are able to ignore reality, and be happy with how things are unfolding around the globe. So I posted the following:

Boy, I love this spring weather! Can't beat that, until summer comes rolling in. I went out and started cleaning stuff off my lawn, before sitting down feeling overwhelmed at the vast amount of effort I'll need to invest on the lawn and garden this year. Perhaps it's just me, but groceries seem to have continued to get more expensive. So I'm thinking about improving the garden this year.

I've been telling my relatives and friends to grow gardens this year. Expand on them, if you already do. I need to learn the art of canning, myself. Buy from local farm stands. Don't waste food. Have a compost pile. Don't wait until it's too late, thinking, “I'll just shoplift and rob my annoying neighbor's picture perfect garden.” Doing that will, of course, at best get you three meals a day in the county jail, but it will be too late in the season when released to get a good garden in.

I was thinking about these things as I rested outside after doing some work. It's enough to make me anxious about the future that I hope to participate in. Then I thought of a recent conversation with my friends Bill and Bill about the future. It sure was better back in the day, the music, the parties, and all of our friends were alive. Things sure have changed. Now we worry about the world we are handing down to the next generations.

Back even two decades ago, necroconservative Dick Cheney was the worst war criminal in the world. I remember when General Wesley Clark ran for president in 2004. He warned us that the necroconservatives (including some from both parties) had a plan to remake the Middle East by overthrowing seven nations. Call it coincidence if you must, but Iran is #7, the last on the list. Thinking of this as I sat relaxing, I found myself looking up at the clouds, hoping none looked like a mushroom.

Fortunately, the sky was overcast and great, and the weather forecast is for it will remain so for a week. There are warnings that a hard rain is going to fall tonight. So around here, people may be staying inside as a result, despite the weather being more upbeat and chipper than the news. Many of my Christian friends will find the combination fitting for meditations on the week that Jesus was murdered. Still others will delight in watching bombs explode on their computer screens, hoping this will bring about the return of Jesus and the end of the world. Boy, are they in for an unpleasant surprise.

Sure – we are living in a global cacotopia, as the ancient Greeks would say. But let's focus on the bright side. I am convinced that Netanyahu will play the antichrist in the next Batman movie. That will be the second flick that this Doors' song is featured in, and few things are as uplifting as The End. Maybe that makes all of the pain, suffering, death, and the huge budget for the movie worth it.

A Screen at Play

It seemed mighty cold at the No Kings! rally I attended with family and friends today. There was strong wind and a few snow flurries. There was also a large golden eagle, high up in the sky, that circled above the crowd. And there were more young people – many, many more – out there today, protesting. There was live music, singing, and dancing, and I tried to shiver along.

There was only one ass wipe who made a feeble attempt to disrupt events. Of course, he was driving a large truck with two large flags – one American, one felon – as he drove by beeping his horn as he went by. After he turned around and headed back down the street, he apparently saw a city police officer had stopped nearby. He did beep twice, and wave one finger. A group of rally participates said, “Thank you!” to him.

When I got home and on the internet, I saw where a group of dick drippings had gone to disrupt a rally in a small town near me. This was the first rally in that community since a few years back, when a young lady who was friends with my daughters organized a Black Lives Matter rally. She was making a statement on the abuse she had endured there as a black human being.

The anti-BLM folks had been in a panic! I surfed facebook, to view their fears that the handful of non-white citizens there were planning to “take over” the town. To this day, I haven't been able to figure out exactly what that meant. Thus, I asked why they would take over the town, and what they would do once it was taken over? I didn't get any responses that I'm comfortable sharing in a family-friendly setting such as DU.

Several of them noted they were bringing guns to oppose the delusion of a BLM take over of a village in rural upstate New York. One man actual sat in his car with his shotgun across his lap, on the opposite side of the street from the rally. More, an intoxicated gentleman went to start fights with those participating in the rally. I recognized him from videos. He had once been an undefeated amateur boxer, a weight class over me. I knocked him out, Hurricane style, in 28 seconds, for his first and only defeat. He had not asked for a rematch, as such, but I suspected his behavior was his way of saying he wanted me to separate him from consciousness again.

Thus, I attended the next BLM rally in a nearby town. I got there early, surveyed the scene, watching who was showing up and from where. Yes, I'm old, and not the fighter I used to be, but I'm not going to let anyone threaten my daughters' friend. Sure enough, the leader of the maga-pack had a large hunting knife on his belt, in full display, as cowardly dogs are prone to do. Sure enough, he wanted to yell at this tiny, beautiful gal who had organized the rally. Without saying a word, I positioned myself near him, so that if he got out of hand, I could reduce him to a puddle of urine & feces in five seconds or less. But he backed down.

That same weekend, my son & family attended a BLM in another county. Being a student of his father, plus a three-time NYS Golden Gloves champion, he had followed an ass wipe trying to disrupt that rally, with the same intentions. Fortunately for that specimen, the police removed them before my boy needed to take action.

I've said all this to say that my friends and I shall attend the next rally in the small town. Things are getting tense in this country, as you might have noticed. Next, to remind people to be fully aware of their surroundings at protests and rallies. I was in a crowd of about 1,000, yet I was able to identify the vehicle parked half a block away, with two guys who were watching the rally for 90 minutes. And finally, to answer any questions about why I used the song here that I did.

While on the internet, I thought that opportunity knocked, and am thus writing a Hollyweird screen play soon to become a favorite series for serious maga. Thus far, I have the title: “Incels on ICE.” And a couple of characters based upon the pathetic losers that to this day are in the president's cult. Wish me luck!

Pulp Diction

I have been pretty busy recently, dealing with some of both the beautiful and horrible things in life, as we all likely are. Recently, on a site on the information highway known as facebook, some guys I've known since grade school have been ranting about disrupting various No Kings! rallies. Their fearless leader actually went to disrupt last weekend. Bad timing! Anyhow, this afternoon I posted the following essay in response. Last week I had posted a similar essay regarding some of the religious nonsense the same guys were posting. An area minister contacted me to ask if he could read it on Sunday.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. “ – Amendment 1

I've read some curious posts & comments from some people that I've been friends with since grade school regarding both war and the first amendment. I have no desire to argue with or insult old friends, so I try to express my thinking on my own page. For I have no interest in arguing with anyone, at this age of life, or have the need to try to convince anyone of anything. Being a grandfather, I am not interested in wasting time that my generation should invest in being Elders.

Let's start with the war. People may approve of it, disapprove, or have no opinion. Polls document that a significant number of Americans oppose the U.S./Israeli attack on Iran. This includes some republicans who are opposed for a number of reasons. These include the president's campaign promise that he would not get our country mired in yet another foreign war. Others are opposed to Netanyahu dictating American policy. And there are retired military and intelligence officers who appear on podcasts to voice opposition to a war that they are convinced will damage our country in the context of the economy and in relationships with other nations.

I have old friends who served in the military who are maga supporters of the war. Some of their friends insult those who oppose the war, even calling them “enemies” of our country. Many of them verbally attack those who exercise their Amendment 1 rights in the “No Kings” rallies. I have more friends who served in the military, including as a career, who are opposed to the war. They are patriots, not “enemies.” They will be attending No Kings! Rallies, should anyone want to chat with them.

Those in the military, like those serving on school boards right up to the presidency, take an oath to uphold the Constitution. This includes honoring Amendment 1, even if one does not agree with how others legally and non-violently exercise those rights. Obviously, that does not include actions that violate the law, such as burning and looting during riots, or taking a dump on a member of Congress's desk after breaking into the Capital Building.

In 1977, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the Skokie case that, offensive as it was, the nazi party had a right to parade in an Illinois community. The neighborhood they marched in had about 50% Jewish residents, including over 100 survivors of the death camps. Thus, since Supreme Court decisions, all specific to constitutional issues, become Constitutional Law. As obnoxious as nazi-types may be, demanding today that all Muslims be deported, I respect their constitutional rights. I would hope they would respect the constitutional rights of those who would ask, “Wait a second – you would have wanted to deport Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X? Don't you understand that there have been Muslims here since before the Revolutionary War?”

I am not in favor of religious zealots running any government, be it in Iran, Israel, or the United States. As a citizen of this country, the political influence of christian nationalists concerns me. It's more than simply that they would agree with deporting the Champ and Malcolm. And both Ali and Malcolm delivered truth at a time that were essential to their era. I encourage people to watch old debates Malcolm was in, on this new thing called “youtube.” Very, very few wanted to debate Malcolm, because they had as much chance as Pee Wee Herman would have had against Mike Tyson.

Now, I'm not opposed to open, serious, and sincere debates. For example, I recommend that everyone on every side watch the discussion between Tucker Carlson and a zealot, as well as ambassador to Israel, Michael Huckabee. This was about the then possibility of again breaking off negotiations without warning, and attacking Iran. Carlson was opposed to such a scheme, because he could process reality in such a way that he knew it would be a failure in the manner we witness today.

Carlson asked Huckabee some questions about Iran, its people, culture, and history. He was admittedly unable to answer a single question on Iran, but was a strong advocate for destroying the country. Why? It is 100% based upon his biases, rooted in his unripe, rather superstitious ready of the Good Book. I prefer opinions rather than biases, for the same reason that the only ones who can express opinions in court are those deemed “expert witnesses” based upon education and experience. Other witnesses can testify to facts, but not “opinion,” for reasons including potential bias.

I, for one, would prefer that experts be in charge when it comes to issues such as war. Since experts on things such as this war, Congress should hold televised hearings allowing all sides to be heard, so that the public does not have to depend on corporate news sources, which almost always contain bias. Heck, I'd even be in favor of local debates, scheduled other than the days of rallies, done respectfully in towns and cities across America. If such debates are rooted in logical and rational thought, rather than emotional outbursts, I would surely consider participating.

Life with the Lions

"All the phrases which have meant so much to Americans – peace and progress, justice and compassion, leadership and idealism – often sound not like stirring reminders of our nation, but call forth the cynical laughter or hostility of our young and many of our adults. Not because they do not believe them, but because they do not think our leaders mean them.

“This is not simply the result of bad politics and lack of skill. It flows from the fact that for almost the first time the national leadership is calling upon the darker impulses of the American spirit – not, perhaps, deliberately, but through its action and the example it sets – an example where integrity, truth, honor, and all the rest seem like words to fill out speeches rather than guiding beliefs. “
Senator Robert F. Kennedy

The nation came to a three prong fork in the president's tongue when he said that Israel attacked the South Pars, the Iranian part of the world's largest gas field. Was this simply another lie told by the pathological liar? Did others know – perhaps Jared and half-Witcoff – but not tell the sociopath-in-chief? Or perhaps the convicted felon/sex offender simply sit when Netanyahu says sit, bark when he says bark, and bite when he says bite?

Is any one better than the other two? Or worse? Maybe, but I think it is an equilateral triangle of terrible options. I suspect that the felon has had little influence, other than ordering the military to destroy Iran. I heard one administration official say they “have to interpret” the president's thinking, which strongly suggests the role that “truth social” and brief conversations with the press play. He certainly has not followed the Constitution by going to Congress to ask them to declare war. Nor has he addressed the nation to identify his game plan.

Whatever the truth may or may not be, the fact is the bombing of South Pars was the step of escalation in the war intended to inflame the Middle East. I think Netanyahu did this in order to increase the level of violence to a point where he can order his lap dog, the felon, to send in ground troops. But almost immediately, Iran responded by bombing Qatar's section of South Pars, among similar strikes in several other countries.

A person willing to destroy the White House to build a monument honoring himself, and try to stick his name on the Kennedy Center, wants to be remembered. It's not just that he leaves his smell like an alley cat, to paraphrase Lennon from “Steel and Glass.” He wants to be a conquistador, for two of the three motivators of the 16th century Spaniards: god, gold, and glory. His administration sought out weak victims to attack. Pay millions to certain people in their government, and some politicians were willing to set up Maduro. In boxing, this is known as a “fixed fight.”

Marco Too Shoes wants to take Cuba, surely telling the felon he would accomplish what no president since 1959 could. The felon also has weird, unnatural feelings – oh, oh, oh, feelings – about Greenland. No one can say what would come next, if he is able to continue on this destructive path. But we do know how much money they want in the budget to continue this war.

The greatest threat to the US is the president. The greatest threat to Israel is Netanyahu. That is the reality of now, here on earth. As I was discussing with a friend here on DU a couple of days ago, it is important that we be here, now. What we do today helps to determine tomorrow. That includes short-time “tomorrows,” such as the upcoming No Kings! Rallies. It includes long-term “tomorrows,” including this fall's elections. Now is the time to be preparing for tomorrow.

“Theoretically, if everyone that disagrees with the lie that has been imposed upon us--tomorrow...if everyone got up and said...'I'm not going to enable the lie anymore'--you would have nonviolent change--and you would have quick change--because the system goes upon our self-rationalizations and self-justifications and insecurity. ...That's how it works and it has turned all of us against each other through distortion...The one thing [these people] fear...is that we would use our minds [to] attempt to see clearly...[and our] apathy makes us the enemy of our descendents. ...They want us to be in a position where all we think about is ourselves...We need to use our minds *to think things through*...[E]verybody is trying to find a way out from the mess they're in and they're using these dark age intellectualizations and remaining confined in these concepts of Freud and all the rest of these people.”

On Human Beings

“We are faced with evil. I feel rather like Augustine did before becoming a Christian when he said, ' I tried to find the source of evil and I got nowhere. But it is also true that I and a few others knew what must be done if not to reduce evil to at least not add to it.' Perhaps we cannot prevent this world from being a world in which children are tortured. But we can reduce the number of children being tortured. And if you believers don't help us, who else in this world can help us do that?”
Albert Camus

Yes, indeed, we are currently faced with evil. As always, I use the term “evil” in the psychological sense as defined by the late Michael Stone and his top student Gary Brucato. Those of you interested in “true crime” in a psychological context may be familiar with their books, or have seen Gary on various podcasts. In that context, it is the crimes that absolutely repulse most people that rate as evil. The butchering of four college students in Idaho a few years back, for example.

Dropping a tomahawk missile on a girls' elementary school fits my idea of evil. It reminds me of when in 1963, members of the KKK planted 19 sticks of dynamite & timing device under the steps of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, killing four little girls. Most people find such things repulsive. Only the sickest among us try to excuse such things, or worse, celebrate it.

Human beings, in my opinion, should not celebrate evil. If an individual, group like the KKK, or a military murders innocent people, we should not celebrate. When those responsible for evil are tried, convicted, and incarcerated, we should be relieved, even very happy. Being human for now, I struggle with the recognition that the deaths of a few world “leaders” could result in my celebrating. Much of my thinking is based upon my status as a grandfather, and discussions with my siblings, cousins, and friends who are grandparents. It is not only about our children, as we all relate to the powerful quote above from Camus.

Thus, as a pathetic old man who has participated in the wonders and horrors of life, I think about “evil,” too. It exists only within human beings. Natural disasters are destructive, but not evil. Likewise, the documentary series “Chimp Empire” suggests that sapiens have long participated in violence. This relates to how the organic structure of sapiens leading to down to us have that potential, but chimps are not “evil,” but rather participants in the wonders and horrors of organic life on earth.

Evil, however, is entirely a reality of modern humans. It came about as a concept when our frontal lobes evolved in size, making child birth painful, making the awareness of our future death an unpleasant reality, and most all of the features of the ancient allegory about the “fall from grace” that is generally misunderstood. Indeed, one of the most common sources of evil is when higher learning falls upon lower understanding. That type of concrete thinking is why it is likely that at least one stranger in the grocery store you go to thinks we needed to bomb Iran before they bombed us.

There is the story about Jesus meditating in the desert for 40 days. Those at the lower levels of understanding believe that is limited to an actual desert, rather than grasping a “desert” also has a significant psychological meaning. More, they believe that Jesus was tempted a red being, complete with horns and pitchfork, known as the devil. They are guided by Santa God and Stained Glass Jesus, totally unaware that was a psychological struggle that Jesus had regarding the path he would follow. This reality helps us view Jesus in the context of humanity.

I think the other source of evil starts with the abuse of children, including individual cases in particular. Both DNA and environment combine to create sociopaths, just as blue and yellow creates green. This creates the creeps that butcher college students, dynamite churches, or bomb schools. This can include childhoods that appear “normal,” whatever that is.

I do not pretend to know what “the” answer is. But I know if a little one in the extended family is being abused, we have to confront and deal with it. If a child is being abused in a community, the community must take action. The same in a state, country, or any place on earth. We are in a tough fight – it might even feel like a desert these days – and this requires that we all do our best to reduce the numbers of human beings suffering.

Mission Accomplished, Part 2

"And every dead child is my child.
Every grieving mother is my mother.
Every crying father is my father.
Every home turned to rubble is the home I grew up in.
Every brother carrying the remains of his brother across borders is my brother.
Every sister waiting for a sister who will never come home is my sister.
Every one of these people are ours, Just like we are theirs.
We belong to them, and they belong to us."
~James Baldwin

I have great respect for the Constitution. Within my libraries are a number of books about its creation and the correct application of it in the law of the land. Also, other books about times it has been misunderstood or purposely applied in incorrect ways.

I doubt like hell the current president has ever read the Constitution, or any books on its history. He has shown that he has zero respect for it. His cult is composed of others who show a profound ignorance of the Constitution, and snakes in DC who willingly betray their oath of office, to have loyalty to it.

Thus, I think that Mark Twain was correct: “Loyalty to country ALWAYS. Loyalty to government, when it deserves it.” One can be patriotic and 100% opposed to this president, and everything he does. And I question the concept that supporting him while honoring the Constitution is somehow possible.

I think that Israel has as much right to exist as any nation. I want the citizens to be able to live in peace. At the same time, I recognize that Netanyahu is a war criminal. I think that he has harmed Israel, making it at increased risk for the hostilities that put its citizens at risk. I do not think it is a coincidence that antisemitism is on a dangerous rise in the United States. Thus, like many good, thinking people, I am against Netanyahu while being pro-Israel.

The synergy of this president and Netanyahu has already caused great destruction in the Middle East. As I watch news from foreign countries, and podcasts featuring retired military and intelligence officials, it becomes evident they have started a war that they cannot control. Having human parasites such as Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff as “envoys” documents that greed, rather than U.S. interests, was the primary factor in this hideous war.

The administration has not told Congress or the public why they attacked now. They have changed the goal posts several times since starting the war. The mediator between the U.S. And Iran had come to DC on February 27, and told the vice president that Iran was willing to agree to serious limitations, and likely allow for U.N. Inspectors. He told CBS's Maureen Brennan the same thing. This raises the disturbing question of why the president joined Israel 24 hours later in the vicious attack – something no other president since the 1979 Iranian revolution would do.

We know that this was the wet dream of the necroconservatives in the Bush-Cheney administration hope to accomplish. Hence, Condi Rice's recent White House visit was no surprise. We know that the vast majority of republicans in the House and Senate are afraid to disagree with the president. More, they are getting “contributions” from AIPAC, and we should remember the AIPAC espionage scandal from the W Bush administration, when spies leaked information on Iran to Israel. So we can't seriously look to them to be loyal to the United States in this case.

https://www.trackaipac.com/congress

Another important factor, as documented above, is that a heck of a lot of Democrats are also on the AIPAC payroll. We saw, in the 2008 presidential primaries, that those who had voted in favor of attacking Iraq did not do well. We saw, in 2024, the refusal to confront the genocide in Gaza – including bringing the rotting pre-corpse of Dick Cheney on stage for an endorsement – did not play well. Indeed, it was a ticket to defeat in the context of independent voters now deciding the outcome of presidential elections.

I speak only for myself in saying I will never donate to any politician or group that takes money from AIPAC.I speak for the well-being of humanity when I ask others to consider, at very least, contacting those who represent you in DC that you are opposed to this war, and unable to support any politician who is connected – be deed or silence – to this immoral war. More, that your support will go to those opposed to the war, especially if they refuse AIPAC contributions.

"Somehow this Madness must Cease"

"And as I ponder the madness of Vietnam and search within myself for ways to understand and respond to compassion my mind goes constantly to the people of that peninsula. I speak now not for the soldiers of each side, but simply of the people who have been living under the curse of war for almost three continuous decades now. I think of them too because it is clear to me that there will be no meaningful solution there until some attempt is made to know them and hear their broken cries. …

“Somehow this madness must cease. We must stop now. I speak as a child of God and brother to the suffering poor of Vietnam. I speak for those whose land is being laid waste, whose homes are being destroyed, whose culture is being subverted. I speak for the poor of America who are paying the double price of smashed hopes at home and death and corruption in Vietnam. I speak as a citizen of the world, for the world is aghast at the path we have taken. I speak as an American to the leaders of my own nation. The great initiative in this war is ours. The initiative to stop it must be ours.”
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.; A Time to Break Silence, April 4, 1967.

The above quote is from my favorite of King's speeches. He was viciously attacked by a wide range of people in the media afterwards for supposedly “straying” from Civil Rights. Yet King was intent upon telling the truth to a sick and divided nation. A year to the day later, he was murdered.

I posted it on facebook this evening. So far, only positive responses. Two days earlier, I had posted a verse from Jimi Hendrix “1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be” about the horrors of war. The lyrics are not “political.” Still, while most people liked it, I was attacked by two of the least intelligent human beings that I have encountered. And I have met some extremely ignorant fools in life.

"Oh, say can you see, it's really such a mess
Every inch of Earth is a fighting nest
Giant pencil and lipstick tube-shaped things
Continue to rain and cause screaming pain
And the Arctic stains from silver blue to bloody red
As our feet find the sand and the sea"
-- Jimi Hendrix, 1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)

As one can see, Jimi's lyrics were about the human condition, not “politics.” Yet one fool commented, “I guess it was okay when Obama...” I simply said, “You guessed wrong.” The other was a cousin who lives about a half an hour away, who I have seen twice since 1969, both times at funerals. The two are the type of sick individuals who support the attack on Iran, and view the destruction with glee.

It is a sign of ethical illness to be happy when an American president willing becomes a lap dog for a war criminal like Netanyahu, in a desperate attempt to save his administration. It is a moral failure to approve of what the felon is doing. We need to be sure this virus does not spread, and instead that the Democratic Party holds to Dr. King's righteousness.

Weird Scenes

“You remember Huston’s plan? Implement it. I want it implemented on a thievery basis. Goddamn it, get in and get those files. Blow the safe and get it.” – Richard Nixon

Why, some may ask, am I so focused upon the public get access to the Epstein Pedo files? Because without them, a criminal president and his supporters can create myths …. such as the lie that Nixon was unaware of break-ins, and only guilty of participating in the cover-up. The above quote came from a June, 1971 White House tape which was first made public by the Washington Post and Newsweek in 1997.

What was Nixon after? Documents. He thought the Brookings Institute – a Washington think tank – had records regarding his activities during the 1968 presidential election. Why did the “plumbers” break into Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist Lewis Fielding's office? What were the “plumbers” looking for in the Chilean embassy and the Watergate for? Nixon believed that Castro had sent Senator Ted Kennedy and others documents on attacks on him when Nixon was VP.

What is Nixon best remember as trying to hide the White House tapes. …...

I had gotten this far in an essay to remind people that a desperate president will resort to blowing things up to cover their criminal behaviors. While doing so, I saw that the criminal leaders of the U.S. and Israel were conducting a criminal attack on Iran. What could possibly go wrong?

I would not want to live in Iran. I like the concept of a wall between state and religion. That includes a “build that wall” in the context of the christian nationalists in our country. I remember Malcolm X paraphrasing Matthew 6:5, “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in synagogues and on street corners to be seen by others.” I'm not fond of bitter old men who think they speak for god when they tell females how to dress, or send males off to war.

I remember in the early 1980s, when in an interview the late Dick Gregory said that the United States had difficulties with Iran and the Muslim world because it hadn't come to understand Malcolm X. Current polls document that the majority of American citizens were opposed to the U.S. starting a war with Iran. But here we are.

I was talking with my daughter who lives in Europe. I said that I favor something that Yoko One said in 1972, after the release of the “Some Time in New York City” double-LP. Reporters questioned her about the picture of Nixon and Mao dancing naked on the cover. Yoko said she advocated that when world leaders meet, they do so in public, naked.

The release of the Epstein Pedo Files is stripping the felon of his garments. We must continue to fight on every front.
